Background History

In the past decade, science has delivered dramatic results in its various fields. However the pace of change at which science has accelerated is beyond what the public can keep up with let alone comprehend or accept.

Fortunately, there is an increasing awareness within the scientific community on their duty and responsibility to the public to make their work more accessible and understandable to the general public bridging the gap between science and society through communication.

Biotechuganda.com intends to assist scientists to bring science closer to Ugandans through science communication, making it accessible and exiting to young people and also non-scientists. By creating linkages between people and science, it brings relevance of science in everyday's life and future applications.

Science communication is not about glorying science without asking questions nor is it a one way flow of information but it is about dialogue engagement and how it matters to society.  There is a need to find new innovative way of communicating the benefits of science and also addressing areas of public concerns. Science must be answerable to society hence broad public awareness, dialogue and debate on its potential future applications including GM is necessary.
